Position Overview
The Environmental Engineer will lead and support environmental initiatives, ensuring compliance with UAE and international environmental regulations within oil and gas operations. This role involves managing environmental permitting, compliance monitoring, impact assessments, and sustainability programs to help the organization maintain the highest environmental performance standards.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage environmental permitting processes covering air emissions, wastewater, waste management, and spill prevention across oil & gas projects.
- Conduct or oversee Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental Baseline Studies, and Environmental Management Plans (EMP) for both greenfield and brownfield facilities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in compliance with ISO 14001 and other applicable standards.
- Set and monitor environmental KPIs to track compliance and continuous improvement in sustainability performance.
- Respond to environmental incidents, lead root-cause analyses, and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
- Coordinate with operations, engineering, and project teams to integrate environmental management into all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with government regulators and local authorities to ensure full adherence to UAE environmental laws and international best practices.
- Conduct training programs, awareness sessions, and workshops to enhance environmental knowledge across teams.
- Manage environmental data collection, reporting, and audits to maintain transparency and compliance.
- Support sustainability initiatives, including carbon footprint reduction, waste minimization, and resource efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in oil & gas or petrochemical industries, focusing on environmental compliance, EIA/EMP development, waste management, and pollution control.
- Proven knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Strong familiarity with UAE environmental laws, ADNOC environmental guidelines, and international standards.
- Experience working with regulatory authorities for permitting and environmental reporting.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and environmental management software tools.
- Ability to work in remote project sites (Ruwais) and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
